Walking and Hiking

Whether it’s to simply refresh your mind amongst the beautiful, natural splendour of the area, or for the more challenging hike to the peak of Niseko’s landmark, Mount Youtei, walking the Niseko area is highly recommended for all who visit

Niseko’s stunning seasonal landscape, in harmony with the beautifully sunny weather of the area, offers truly superb hiking for all abilities.

Lake Hangetsu

The tranquil Lake Hangetsu (Half Moon) at the base of Mount Youtei in the National Park offers a gentle stroll that runs the circumference of a minor crater lake that has preserved a unique, picturesque shape, with views to Mount Youtei. There are approximately 130 wild birds that can be spotted around this remarkable lake, and the area puts on a breathtaking display of colours in the autumn months.

Mount Youtei

Leading on from the comfortable confines of Lake Hangetsu, Mount Youtei towers above, offering an immensely rewarding 4 - 6 hour hike to the peak amidst dramatic native alpine vegetation and wildlife. Not for the faint-of-heart, Niseko’s landmark is a challenge for all abilities, but affords an almost birds-eye view of the Niseko area; a truly memorable panorama.

Kyowa-cho and Shinsen-numa

Kyowa-cho and surrounds are a short drive over the striking Niseko Panoramic Line which connects Niseko with the picturesque coastal town of Iwanai. Well worth the short excursion out of the immediate Niseko area, this ancient landscape offers an expansive grass wetland brimming with life, and a number of picture-perfect small wetland lakes including the famous Shin-sen-numa. A raised walking platform offers excellent access for all abilities to this natural wonderland.
